Hospitals are considered as "critical infrastructures" for cybersecurity, where technical risks come from a connected network of medical devices and work stations, obsolete IT systems not designed for security alongside the shift towards remote working, often with unprotected devices. On top of this, hospitals also have to deal with insecure human behaviours in fast-paced, time-pressured environments, where staff often use the same work station, share passwords or simply don't pay enough attention to email security, with heightened risks caused by an exponential growth in scam messages during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

PANACEA sets out to tackle these challenges through its Toolkit for Cybersecurity in Healthcare. The  tools, which can be used as standalone solutions or as part of an integrated package, are part of user-centric approach. The PANACEA solution also includes a Cyber Return-on-Investment assessment and has been tested in hospitals in Greece, Ireland and Italy. 

Sabina Magalini (Catholic University of the Sacred Heart), PANACEA coordinator, Pasquale Mari and Fabio Rizzoni (Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic) present the toolkit in the November issue of the Platinum magazine, published as a supplement of Italy's main financial newspaper, "Il Sole 24 Ore". The magazine is available in both English and Italian in print and online.
